Good news for Aiken drivers!

There's a plan in the works to ease traffic congestion on Whiskey Road on the south side of town.

The project involves building a new road and bridge. This will create a shortcut between East Pine Log Road and the existing South Centennial Avenue Connector.

Here's what the project includes:

  • Powderhouse Road improvement They'll widen a quarter-mile stretch of Powderhouse Road SE, from where it meets East Pine Log Road down to Kirkwood Drive.
  • Safer sidewalks New 5-foot sidewalks will be added along this section of Powderhouse Road.
  • Easier turning: A dedicated right-turn lane will be built onto East Pine Log Road.
  • Brand new road: They'll also construct a whole new 1.1-mile road that will connect Powderhouse Road near Kirkwood Drive to the South Centennial Connector.

Once completed, this project, along with the existing South Centennial Connector, will give drivers another way to get between East Pine Log Road and Whiskey Road. This should hopefully mean less traffic and shorter travel times on Whiskey Road.
